July 1941, the town of Gdov. Father Alexander, a priest, is being held in the NKVD's dungeons. He was imprisoned for preaching to the faithful about the saints who pleaded with the Savior not to abandon Russia in the ongoing war, but the Savior replied that Russia was so filled with the filth of desolation that it was no longer possible to tolerate these injustices, and that the war was a just punishment for a country that had forgotten God. Such words could not go unnoticed, and Captain Yakovlev of the State Security accused Father Alexander of aiding the advancing Germans...

The movie will be set in the future, in a multiracial country divided into two nations by a border. “Cross” will tell the story of the people caught in between these two nations, one of which is wealthy and one of which is impoverished.

Christopher, a middle-aged man who is obsessed with repairing old radios, marries the Russian bride Natasha. She comes to live with him and his mother Dora in his London house. Dora instigated the marriage in order to have someone look after her son when she dies. Natasha is bored as Christopher takes no sexual interest in her, and she is treated as a servant. Eddie, an out-of-work actor, stirs up the household when he befriends Christopher and Dora, in order to seduce Natasha.

What is it that Edgar Garrett sees, or thinks he sees, on his farm one morning in the mists of early spring? Whatever it is, one thing is certain. Life will never be the same again for him and his family.

Avdey, the husband of the tractor forewoman Fedosya leaves her for another woman. Their 18-year-old son Filipp can not forgive his father and on the day of the new wedding even tries to run over a tractor car in which the father is driving with a new wife. Shortly after the wedding, Avdey realizes that he made a fatal mistake and is trying to return to Fedosya, but she cannot forgive. Filipp was taken into the army, on the border where Filipp serves, an armed violation of the border occurs, during which he dies.

Young Polya comes to Moscow: she wants to find her father, Professor Vikhrov, and try to understand why her mother broke up with him. Vikhrov is a prominent scientist who has defended the forest from barbaric destruction all his life. The war begins. Professor Vikhrov continues to lecture, proving to students the need to protect the forest. Polya is trying to find out the reasons for the long-standing feud between her father and academician Gratsianskiy. Now, when Vikhrov is already not young and lonely, the professor mentally returns to the past.
